Project Cubbins: hat 161 - Dog Star Edition

Day 161 / Hat 161: Blue cotton baseball-style cap with pink and white embroidered "EP" on front with star detail in the "P."

This is the second of the two pieces of team merchandise for the new Triple-A baseball El Paso Chihuahuas sent by the Admiral (the first of the hats made its Project Cubbins debut Friday as Hat 159). As I noted in that post, while the scrappy little dog that's the team's namesake adorns a lot of team merch, this is one of the alternative logos.

The star isn't there by accident, either, it symbolizes the 459-foot-long, 278-foot-wide five-point light-up star that has been shining in one way, shape or size from the south face of the city's Franklin Mountain since 1940. (A brief history of the Franklin Mountain Star can be found on the website of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce.)

According to RoadsideAmerica.com, some folks claim it is the "world's largest man-made illuminated star."

I did not know that ...

OK, nice hat -- but what exactly is Project Cubbins, anyway?

A: One man's homage to Dr. Seuss and his second book, "The 500 Hats of Bartholemew Cubbins," which is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its publication in 2013, Project Cubbins is an attempt to document the wearing of a different hat or piece of headgear every day for 500 consecutive days. No do-aheads, no banking of hats, no retroactive entries. PC started on May 27, 2013 with Hat 1

Got hats? If you loan 'em, you'll get e'm back safe and sound!
